Reflective Blog Entry

DLC...a world within itself..... challenging, creative, inspiring, sweet, a bit sour, with a lovely juicy center. Heaven in a bite! In the course of one small semester I have grown so much that even upon writing this blog entry am I shocked! From one tiny seed did I sprout blossoms! What surprises me the most is that I still have a lot more growth ahead. I feel ready to go out and start my life....yet... I want to savor the moments of now... those that I hold dearest. There is so much to learn in such a short period of time! I feel.....inspired and simply honored to be a part of the DLC team! I am bursting with newly attained confidence, maturity , and a love for working with my fellow students! I am most proud of my Lorax and my Stephen Crane as they were my most inspirational and my most rewarding projects. Both were challenging and took a large amount of my time and dedication to reach the finish line. When I thought it was impossible I figured out ways to make it possible! What I find challenging is reflecting on myself and public speaking as I’m usually at a loss of words and I’m deathly afraid of scrutiny. To be in the spotlight is my dream yet I’m afraid to be put in the spotlight if that makes any sense.... My favorite project was my part in the Stephen Crane video! It was fun and challenging to compile a whole bunch of clips to post to music! Next quarter I hope that will continue to progress and gain new knowledge! I want to be the best me that I can be! I hope to improve my friendships and make new ones too! I want to be more attentive and make my final products better then ever!

  1. Wow, Katelyn. This looks really professional. I can tell from just reading this that you have grown from sixth grade! This is a really good, reflective blog. I completely agree that this program has helped me grow, by challenging me in new ways, and giving me special privileges. The new maturity and and new things I have learned still amaze me to this day. I feel so lucky to be in this program, and it has been fun tagging along with everybody else in this incredible, new experience. You have also definitely grown and matured. Whenever I hear that we get to be in a group, I get excited, because I know that you are a good leader, a hard worker, and a very creative person. And those traits have grown very much since the beginning of the year. Although the Stephen Crane was challenging for me, and didn't come out quite the way I would've liked it to, I agree that I was proud of my Lorax. It was really the first time I could show myself, through both my writing of the poem, and the digital recreation. You say that, " I’m usually at a loss of words and I’m deathly afraid of scrutiny." I don't really understand that, because when you present, it is exciting for all of us. You are a great public speaker, and you know your stuff that you are covering incredibly well. I seldom have any constructive criticism to give to you! What I was wondering is, that what about the DLC has made you grow so much more than you have in year's past?

  2. I feel like you had a really good message from this entry and I also get an impression of how much dlc has taught you and how much you love this class and the way it runs. I feel the emotion pulsating from this piece of writing and i'm sure Mrs. Binder would be proud. I am curious as to why you had to pull everything together at the last minute . I do fell that your public speaking could use a little work but I'm sure with your work ethic you could become one of the better public speakers in DLC. I also felt the same way about "Scrutiny" because I'm not a huge fan of people criticizing me, however throughout DLC I have learned that without criticism I would never get anywhere without criticism and that if we didn't have criticism we would have half as much knowledge as we do. I do wonder though if your lorax project hadn't been as successful as it was if you still would have enjoyed it.
